ANSI Accredited Standards Committee B7 on Use, Care and Protection of Abrasive Wheels
Committee B7 creates specifications for safety in the use of bonded, coated and loose abrasives, excluding natural sand stones; including safety requirements for abrasive products, abrasive machines and accessories, and requirements for the proper storage, handling and mounting of abrasive products.
Technical Committee No. 1 on Use, Care, and Protection of Abrasive Wheels, Machines and Accessories
Committee No. 1 develops safety specifications and for the use, care, and protection of abrasive wheels, including safety guards, flanges, chucks, proper storage, handling and mounting. Also, to develop standards as they apply to grinding machines, designed primarily for metal removal that present grinding tools against workpieces producing change in shape, size, and/or surface finish by grinding. Such standards would also apply to machines when they are grinding materials other than metals such as glass, ceramics, plastic and rubber. Exclusions from these machine requirements would be portable, hand-held grinders, except for those machine elements, such as flanges, that affect the safe mounting and use of the wheel, machines using loose abrasives, machines used for concrete cutting on road construction jobs, and natural sandstones, pulpstones, and coated abrasive products.
Technical Committee No. 2 on Construction, Care, and Use of Grinding Machines
The work proposed for this committee has been merged with Technical Committee No. 1.
Technical Committee No. 3 on Use, Care and Protection of Abrasive Wheels Used on Portable Electric Grinders and Portable Electric Cutting-off Machines
Committee was disbanded on January 14, 1987, since Power Tool Institute felt that material contained in proposed document would be included in B7.1
Technical Committee No. 4 on Construction, Care and Use of Pneumatic-Powered, Hand-held, Portable Abrasive Machines
Compressed Air and Gas Institute will continue work under the B186 banner and has disbanded this committee.
Technical Committee No. 5 on Construction, Use and Care of Gasoline-Powered, Hand-Held, Portable, Abrasive Cutting-Off Machines
Committee No. 5 develops specifications for safety requirements for the construction, use and care of gasoline-powered, hand-held, portable, abrasive cutting-off machines.
Technical Committee No. 6 on Construction, Care and Use of Bench and Pedestal Grinders
Committee was disbanded on January 14, 1987, since Power Tool Institute felt that material contained in proposed documents would be included in B7.1 standard.
Technical Committee No. 7 on Use, Care, and Protection of Coated Abrasives
Committee No. 7 develops, as required, safety information concerning the proper use of coated abrasives.
Technical Committee No. 8 on Construction, Care, and Use of Masonry and Concrete Abrasive Machines
Committee No. 8 provides for safety requirements for the construction, care and use of masonry and concrete abrasive machines, excluding gasoline-powered, pneumatic-powered, electric-powered, hand-held, portable abrasive machines.
